Secretive SubtextTurn Your Writing into Literatureby Monika Rose |
|
Explore methods to empower your prose. Dig below the surface and plant detail
that will infuse your prose with literary subtext.
We will examine passages from the Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd;
Flannery O'Connor's short fiction, "A Good Man Is Hard to Find"; Steinbeck's
Of Mice and Men; and Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
Monika will bring her poet's eye to your prose. Learn how to establish images
and literary language, create deeper subtext, and infuse etymological depth into
your writing.
Bring a couple of paragraphs--or one page of your writing from a short story or novel. Expect to add subtext to this in class and share with others.
