2008 Gold Rush Writers Retreat

Short-Short part II

by

Sally Ashton

Both print journals and electronic zines now feature the "short-short” finished works of limited word length. Poets, authors and essayists have turned to the vignette, whether memoir, prose poem or fiction. Whether you're a full time writer or are just beginning to explore fiction, memoir or poetry, this brief form provides an excellent opportunity for hands-on-experimentation and discussion.

In Part II, The Workshop, participants will workshop their short-short assignments from the first session. Those familiar with the form or who attended last year will receive an assignment via email. All 3 genres are workshopped together adding to a better grasp of one's chosen genre and a greater appreciation of all three. Come for a lively discussion, to test your powers of brevity and sharpen your skills. Writers of all genres welcome. Returning participants need not attend Part I.
